Cutting Edge Treatment Techniques

Aquatic therapy

Peak Performance Physical Therapy offers aquatic (pool) therapy at three locations: Industriplex Blvd, Dutchtown/Geismar, and Monterrey Blvd. The Industriplex and Dutchtown clinics feature Swim-Ex rehabilitation pools, each holding 2,600 gallons and measuring 8 ft by 20 ft. These pools are 5 ft deep, but platforms reduce depth to 4 ft for most sessions.

The Swim-Ex unit includes eight workstations, accommodating seated exercises, various stretches, and plyometric (jumping) exercises. A laminar flow feature provides constant resistance, engaging core and abdominal muscles throughout the session. Additionally, the pool is equipped with a lift chair for patients needing assistance entering or exiting. Water temperature is maintained between 88 and 92 degrees.

Aquatic therapy offers significant benefits across various conditions, allowing greater range of motion and higher exercise tolerance compared to land-based activities. It is particularly effective for patients with chronic osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, post-operative recovery, low back pain, and obesity.

Blood Flow Restriction Therapy

Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) therapy, also known as occlusion training, involves using a cuff to limit blood flow to muscles during exercise. This technique promotes muscle growth and strength gains similar to heavy lifting, but with lighter weights and reduced joint stress.

BFR is commonly used for recovery from sports injuries, joint pain, or surgery and can also support general strengthening, particularly for older adults.
