Athletic training
Athletic training involves skilled healthcare professionals working alongside physicians and physical therapists to address barriers to full participation in sports and activities. Trainers assist with end-stage injury rehabilitation, ensuring individuals can meet the physical demands of their sport.
Peak Performance Physical Therapy, in partnership with Baton Rouge Orthopedic Clinic (BROC), provides athletic training to local schools and volunteers support for community youth events and athletic activities in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas.
Balance retraining and fall prevention
Balance and fall prevention therapy enhances balance, strength, and coordination, reducing fall risk, especially in older adults. It includes customized exercises, safety education, and medical condition management.
Key components—such as balance, strength, flexibility, coordination training, and vestibular rehabilitation—improve mobility, confidence, and independence while minimizing injuries. Beneficiaries include older adults, individuals with balance disorders or medical conditions, and those fearing falls.
This therapy aims to enhance quality of life through effective fall prevention strategies.
Concussion management
A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury that affects brain chemistry and tissue, leading to physical, cognitive, and behavioral symptoms. Every concussion is serious, requiring immediate medical attention after a head injury.
The CDC estimates 1.6–3.8 million concussions occur annually in the U.S., with 1–1.8 million in youth sports. About 50% result from sports and recreation, while others stem from falls or other causes. Up to 50% go undetected, particularly in older adults and cases involving multiple injuries.
Concussions occur from head or body impact. Fewer than 10% cause unconsciousness, and brief loss of consciousness (under two minutes) doesn’t affect recovery. Symptoms can appear immediately or within days, making early recognition crucial.
Physical therapists assess and treat concussions with tailored recovery plans, using hands-on care, education, and prescribed exercises to enhance quality of life. You can consult one directly for evaluation.
Custom foot orthotics
Have you ever considered how much your quality of life depends on your feet? When they’re not functioning properly, it can feel like you’ve lost your footing. Orthotics help improve balance, posture, and foot health, addressing issues from calluses to plantar fasciitis. They also ease pain from your soles to your neck.
Choosing custom foot orthotics means they are specifically designed for your feet and unique needs—not a one-size-fits-all solution. Custom orthotics support and correct foot mechanics, helping you move comfortably and without pain.
Your feet endure a lot every day—show them some appreciation with Peak Performance Physical Therapy’s custom foot orthotics. Take care of your feet, so they can carry you through life—whether it’s a trip to the store, playing with the kids, or getting back into the gym.

Functional capacity evaluations (FCE's)
Peak Performance Physical Therapy has been conducting Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs) since 1996. Scott A. Dickie, PT, DPT, COMT, and Ben Wilson, PT, DPT, perform the full evaluation (one day, four hours) or an abbreviated ""mini-test"" for assessing specific areas.
The procedure includes objective testing such as static and hand strength assessments, occasional, frequent, and constant materials handling, non-materials handling, and various job- and function-specific tasks like climbing, crawling, squatting, prolonged standing and sitting, bending, reaching, and carrying.
Throughout the test, validity criteria are measured while considering the patient’s physical condition and reported symptoms. The results are compiled into detailed reports, providing objective data for doctors, adjusters, employers, and patients to assess their ability to safely perform specified tasks.

These programs aim to improve key health metrics, such as blood pressure, body weight, body fat percentage, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels. Exercise is medicine!
Motion analysis
The human body is designed for movement. However, as we age or experience injury, our bodies undergo changes that make movement more challenging. Prolonged poor movement often leads to pain or dysfunction, prompting individuals to seek help. A physical therapist can provide invaluable assistance.
When a patient experiences movement dysfunction, they compensate for muscles or joints that are not functioning optimally. This compensation places additional stress on other muscles and joints, leading to overuse. Movement dysfunction can generally be categorized into five distinct areas: inadequate shock absorption, quadriceps overuse, pelvic instability, trunk instability, and poor foot mechanics.
A physical therapist can identify the root cause of your pain or dysfunction and guide you toward moving stronger, faster, and better!
Performance Therapy (post PT program)
At Peak Performance Physical Therapy, we are dedicated to helping you live pain-free while enhancing your mobility and activity levels. Proper movement acts as ongoing ""medicine"" for the body, and our ultimate goal is to help every patient maintain functionality, independence, and a pain-free life.
Throughout your treatment plan at Peak Performance Physical Therapy, we focus on educating you about your body—how it functions and how it’s designed to work. Our goal is to equip you with knowledge that will benefit you for years to come. Based on your unique goals and preferences, we provide instruction in exercises and functional activities that promote long-term wellness. If you have a favorite gym or facility you attend, we’ll assist you in transitioning from physical therapy to a personalized ""lifestyle"" exercise program.
We encourage you to share your goals and favorite activities with your physical therapist. This collaboration allows us to design customized programs that optimize your progress and enjoyment.
Pain Relief
Pain, whether it be acute and sharp or chronic and nagging, can significantly affect one's daily life and activities.
Over-the-counter pain medications and creams can provide a bit of temporary relief, but they do not address the cause of the pain and as a result, the pain usually returns ... many times getting worse. In addition, inappropriate or long-term use of pain medications can cause its own set of problems, whether that be gastrointestinal bleeding issues or a potentially much more serious and deadly opioid addiction.
At Peak Performance Physical Therapy, we utilize a structured, methodical, evidence-based approach to easing pain and associated symptoms while assessing the body's musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems to identify the root cause of the pain, muscle spasms, and inflammation. Then, as our therapists work through the treatment plan, we provide education on specifically what we are doing, how you can maintain the results, and why it is important to not only getting you pain-free, but for keeping you pain-free.
Workers' Comp - Triple 3 Program
At Peak Performance Physical Therapy, we take great pride assisting injured workers to get back to work in the quickest and safest manner possible. As with athletes, getting injured workers back in 'their game' requires knowledge, skill, and experience. While addressing the specific injury sustained, the Peak therapists also take into consideration the increased level of functioning required to get back to the job duties required and ensure the patient is not only pain-free, but able to perform their job safely with a minimal to no risk for re-injury.
Along with the best in acute injury and pain management, Peak Performance also utilizes work conditioning and Functional Capacity Evaluations when appropriate.
Our goal is to get injured workers back to their jobs efficiently, while providing education to both the worker and the employer with regard to preventing further or future injuries.
Peak Performance Physical Therapy offers our acute injury treatent and work conditioning program and ALL clinic locations. Functional Capacity Evaluations are scheduled at selected sites.
